Go! Friends

The illustration for this blog is appropriately "Go! Friends" because we have just kicked-off the Facebook Worldwide Artist Search. All that we have to do is invite friends to help find an artist candidate for any of the nations that are available at this page and then writing the find on the wall on our group page.
Also on the discussion Board of our group page you will find the requisites for an artist candidate as follows:
1) The WPMP Artist Ambassador must be a native or a direct descendant of native parents from the nation he or she represents.
2) He or she must be an active or practicing artist in any accepted art form such as painting, sculpture, writing, dance, theater, film, and architecture.
3) The artist must reside in the nation he or she represents.
4) The artist should make an effort to understand the following objectives as they will become the proof of our collaborative effort.
  1. To create the first global work of Data A art.
  2. To demonstrate that humanity can work together as a single species.
  3. To establish a minimal working model of world peace and present it to the world as a measure of sufficiency.

5) The artist should understand that this work of art is a global collaborative effort that requires a level of communication between all of its ambassadors in order to sustain the global character of the collaborative work and its objectives.

6) The artist should be able to receive and document the arrival of the peace marker and submit the documentation of the event to WPMP central office.

7) The artist should be able to direct the operations involved in placing the Peace Marker in a permanent location, and to coordinate the efforts with the central project office.

8) The artist must be willing to remain an active part of the project until the project is completed and thereafter as long as they wish.

9) The WPMP Artist Ambassador must understand that this project is the first of its kind in the history of our species and, therefore, the potential exists that your participation in the project may generate an unusual amount of attention to your person and to your own personal work.

What is the Worldwide Peace Marker Project?

The Project:

The Worldwide Peace Marker Project (or WPMP) is a work of Data A art that falls within the classification of "installation art." WPMP reaches beyond art's conventional boundaries by becoming a global cooperative represented by 198 artists from as many nations in the world. Because of its global scope, WPMP manages to integrate human diversity into a new dialog about art and life (as Nature) into a single global cultural experience.

General objective:

Worldwide Peace Marker Project has (3) principal objectives.

  1. An artistic objective, to create the first truly global work of art in the history of humanity.
  2. A humanitarian objective, to demonstrate to humanity that we can work collaboratively and globally as a single species to address the challenges we face as a species in the 21st century.
  3. A planetary survival objective, to establish a minimal working model of world peace as a measure of Sufficiency.

So who do you know that knows an artist in any of the countries where we need an ambassador? Help us find a friend who will find that friend who knows one. Thanks...

Action Plan

I have illustrated today's blog entry with an image named "Action Plan." It dramatizes the ideal of being in a virtual environment with a purpose in mind like the Facebook Worldwide Artist Search.

We will use our Facebook group page, "Planet Earth 2.0," as the creative tool for our search and discovery mission. From its strategic position in the vast global environment of Facebook, with your help it will work as follows:

  • Our Recent News section will keep up with the beat of the search and provide updates and breaking news items.
  • Our Discussion Board section will provide pertinent information including the guidelines for the artist/ambassador selection process and it will serve as a question and answer forum.
  • The Wall section is the bulletin board for members to post all of their search happenings
  • Our ancillary websites (planetearth2point0.com, wpmp.net and tiite.com) will operate as outlined in my previous blog.

Since this kind of search has never been done before, there will be a lot to learn and many opportunities for us to work together while we learn how to to go about it better. The main thing is that we have a great resource, an urgent global mission and a fascinating game to play while exploring the strength of our virtual friendship and our personal commitment for a new world.

My dear friends,Planet Earth 2.0 is a very real way for us to learn how to re-frame the context of life in our world. We are responding creatively on a parallel course to the stale expectations from a failed worldview (Planet Earth 1.0) that has already delivered all of its promise.

In fact we are generating the environment where a parallel culture can take hold and provide home to people from different walks of life and specializations who are disenfranchised by Planet Earth 1.0 because their ideas cannot operate there. But, Planet Earth 2.0 is a better fit.

The Facebook Worldwide Artist Search is a new adventure in social media. The Kick-off will take place on September 25, 2009. Allow me to offer you a brief recap of the overall initiative.

Recap

The Facebook Worldwide Artist Search is a collaborative activity by Facebook friends around the world to find 183 artists from 183 nations to be their ambassadors for the Worldwide Peace Marker Project (WPMP.)

WPMP is a work of a new type of art called "Data A" art that is relevant to the mission of Planet Earth 2.0. Data A art celebrates a new relationship between humanity and Nature as partners in the creation of a new world.

Action is activity directed towards a purpose and ours is to begin the groundwork for a world that future generations can sustain and a planet that can sustain future generations.

For that groundwork to be effective it cannot be prepared with wishes and promises. we must build self evident landmarks that indicate and leave no doubt that a totally new alternative for humanity is at play.

As we will discover, the global delegation of 198 Artist/Ambassadors together with the Peace Marker landmark that they will place on their national soil will constitute evidence to support two completely new experiences for humanity.

First, through their collaborative work with WPMP, the presence of 198 artists as ambassadors who represent 6.6 billion people from all of the sovereign nations of the world becomes proof that that we can work globally as a single species.

Second, that individual peace markers at each of the 198 nations in the world placed there through such collaboration, clearly demonstrates that a point of peace exists in all nations and, therefore, a first quantitative model of world peace is created by humanity.

What makes WPMP such a landmark in human relations is the fact that, for the first time in our history, art can finally remove the veil between "wishing" for peace and having a new kind of tangible "culture" of world peace established that can exist both in our minds and heart and on the ground where we can all experience, nourish and cultivate it from then on.

We will kick-off the Facebook Worldwide Artist Search on Friday September 25.

Let us know your thoughts. Your comments are always appreciated.

Ready to Play?

Dear friends,

We are approaching the start-up of some very amazing moments in history. I'm particularly proud to remind you that we are truly the "opening act" to a program that is changing the destiny of humanity in the most real and evident way.
Our up-and-coming "Facebook Worldwide Artist Search" is basically ready. Our social media components are in place. This is what I mean.
  • Our Planet Earth 2.0 Facebook group is the hero site that will lead the way by connecting friends-to-friends-to-friends as we search the world for artists to become their nation's Worldwide Peace Marker Ambassadors.

  • Our Planet Earth 2.0 Blog which functions as the official global source for news and information for the Facebook Worldwide Artist Search and for the overall project.

  • Our Planet Earth 2.0 Art site on Flickr which serves as our online global image downloading facility for project art collectibles and art ephemera. In addition, our new "Facebook Worldwide Artist Search" group on Flickr rounds up the feedback loop for global image and discussion uploading by contributing friends. Thereby creating a global library of the project.

  • Our Planet Earth 2.0 website functioning as the online global magazine that features the people, stories, opinions and events of this groundbreaking Data A art project as it unfolds.

  • Our Worldwide Peace Marker Project website which is the center piece of the Planet Earth 2.0 story and where the selected artists from the search become ambassadors. the website also chronicles the global map of available or taken national ambassadorship opportunities.

  • My own website being the "go to" place on line for Data A art criteria, project reference, achival images and preparatory projects leading to WPMP and the Facebook Worldwide Artist Search.

  • Twitter and a recurring YouTube presence are to be added next upon reaching the project's next stage of development.

Friends, this is the reason I say we are the "opening act." The Worldwide Peace Marker Project is a concerted effort to create a collective global experience where we, humanity, through the arts come together for the first time in our history to share with each other the discovery that we can work together as one single species.

This experience alone will set the course for all of the collaborative work that needs to follow to address the many, otherwise, unsurmountable challenges humanity faces now.

We, the Facebook group, in our collaborative search for the WPMP artists who will represent the entire species, would be in fact, experiencing and demonstrating that it can be done as a group and then as a global community.

As you can see, we the "opening act" become the undeniable evidence that the entire species can come together. We will ring the first bell to announce that "a world that can sustain future generations and a planet that can sustain future generations" is at hand.

Are you ready to play?

I hope you are, because the first pay-off of WPMP is a simple but true model of world peace forged with the spirit of the entire human species.

Coming up... The action plan! Stay tuned.

A Birthday Celebration

I spoke of a follow-up to the recent exhibit that marked the birth of Planet Earth 2.0 on my September 2nd blog posting, "First Step." Here it is. I'm illustrating it with a work of mine from 2005 titled "Magi"
In this image, I explore the truly magical aspects of our ability to conceive the miracle of life in our conscious and our ability to contemplate a landscape of relationships between Life's mysteries and the revelation of some of its secrets.
I revisited the theme of the Magi, as so many artists have done for thousands of years, as if to survey one of the most ennobling and iconic themes in human history. I revisit it in an effort to nourish my own belief that we, humanity, still have adequate moral foundations, The ingenious capability and the will to embrace a new level of consciousness and to begin to acknowledge all life as precious and indispensable with greater accordance to natural design.
There may be no higher act of reverence than the act of becoming a living being who is intimately connected to a life, all life--particularly at this moment when all of life is in clear and present danger and we must rise to the occasion and meet the challenge.
Planet Earth 2.0, the ideas that support its conception, the principles that emerged during its 29 years of gestation and the aesthetic that gives it its cultural shape and function have all come to be alive on its birthday on August 29, 2009.
The "Birth of Planet Earth 2.0" exhibit at the salon in the Frame Gallery & Gift in Cape Coral, Florida, unlike the original Magi, was attended by a multitude of people composed of government officials, ambassadors, business people, artists, teachers, trades workers and family --all dear friends whose presence I requested so that I could thank them for their support during the nearly three decades that it took to turn a laughable notion into a new world.
Today we launch a new website where the ongoing life of Planet Earth 2.0 is chronicled and shared with them and with all of our Facebook friends around the world. You will find a link to it below. On this website I'm privileged to share with you the works of art that we featured at the exhibit and a wonderful gallery of the people who attended and signed Planet Earth 2.0's "birth certificate," the Planet Earth 2.0 manifesto.
But how real is Planet Earth 2.0? Really?
It is real enough to be experienced. I say this because it exists and because Planet Earth 2.0 is in fact a new state of consciousness that has a constituency from around the world.
Planet Earth 2.0's social media presence in facebook alone is a developing global phenomenon as shown by the following report issued by its facebook creator Brent Scheneman. He reports on September 14,2009:
I'm proud to share these statistics with you regarding our Facebook group in its first 30 days since it was launched:
  • 197 members
  • 21 nations are represented within the ranks of our membership.
  • 5 continents are represented within the ranks of our membership...(all except Antarctica and Australia).
  • 11 nations are represented by at least 17 members in nations where we will be searching for artists as WPMP ambassadors.
  • Those 17 members have a total of 2,543 Facebook friends.
  • The 21 nations of our Facebook group, "Planet Earth 2.0" as of Sept.14, 2009, are Canada, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Equador, France, Germany, India, Italy, Lebanon, Macedonia, Nepal, Norway, Serbia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA, and Venezuela.

(compiled by Brent Scheneman.)

This my friends is the momentum that is building up towards the very real "Facebook Worldwide Artist Search." It is the beginning of the global merging point of friends who sincerely embrace planet Earth 2.0's objective to promote the growth of "a world that future generations can sustain and a planet that can sustain future generations."

A Species on the Move

In preparation for the launch of our "Facebook Worldwide Artist Search" I have readied a new WPMP "participating nations" page on our Worldwide Peace Marker Project website. (The link is below.) You can see all of the flags from all of the nations that are the focus of the search for artists who may complete our roster of WPMP Artist/Ambassadors.

Looking at this vast array of flags, it is amazing to consider the scale of the Worldwide Peace Marker Project. And, I would think, it becomes unavoidable to get a sense of the importance of this collaborative work of art -- the first of its kind in the history of our species.

The title work that I feature here on the blog today, "A Species on the Move" dramatizes the incredible effect behind this idea for us, humanity, as we take the first step as a species unified by a common desire to establish the ground work for "a world that future generations can sustain and a planet that can sustain future generations."

Our search for artists to represent each of the nations listed on the "participating nations" page is a wonderful exercise of the power of social media. And, it is a power that you can exercise with just a few clicks.

Planet Earth 2.0 is a growing reality as much as it is a state of mind in which you, like the personage depicted in today's illustration, can feel the power of unification without losing individual identity while being conscious of the global effect you can have in the outcome.

If you look closer at the illustration, the figure is made from all of the flags from all of the nations participating in WPMP. He, or she, embodies all of their colors and meanings, their identities, their distinction, their cultural roots and the character of their home lands.

I hope you take a moment to look more closely at it, as you are one of the first humans to see images of ideas that embody the spirit of a new world.

We all know the state of the world we are in. We also know that unless we can see for ourselves that we can work together as a species we will never get anything done in time to make a difference.

The facebook Worldwide Artist Search is something we can all do together that will produce real results in a new world that is real because you are.

We will continue to share more details in the days to come as we set the stage to find one artist from each of the nations representing the entire human community.

It is our first step as a species to create the spirit of unity that will define a new kind of world peace on Planet Earth 2.0.

All Points Bulletin

It has been said that social media and its "many-to-many" pattern is potentially the provider of the largest increase in expressive capability in human history. This blog and our Planet Earth 2.0 group in Facebook communicates to you in this amazing new arena.
That means, that during this historical moment, we have at our disposition tools that with just a few clicks allow us to make amazing things happen that would have been impossible to do before.
Now, we should be able to bring into the real world things that are needed and wanted...the things that, before, were destined to remain far-fetched dreams that we entrusted to the classical institutions to make them happen so long ago.
Well, how would you like to take that many-to-many pattern out for a spin and see for ourselves what it can do? For real!
Here is the thought
If you read my previous blog, "First Step," you noticed my reference to our "Worldwide Peace Marker Project." WPMP (for short) is a work of Data A art in progress. Its mission may be described simply as "a project poised to demonstrate at a global scale that we, humanity, can work collaboratively as a single species and that we can accomplish goals as difficult as creating a new template for world peace by just taking the first step to do so."
We already have 15 artists representing as many nations as "Artist Ambassadors" of the WPMP. The project involves 198 nations. So, we still need 183 artists to represent those 183 nations that remain on the list in order to complete the project.
Here is the task
Can we, together, embrace a "Facebook Worldwide Artist Search" and find those artists? I think we can. Here is why.
Our planet Earth 2.0 Facebook group is only a few weeks old and it already has 185 members.
This means that just a few degrees from you as a member there is a huge number of people. If each member (on average) has about 50 friends who would like to join the search, and each of those have about 50 friends, we are talking about 2,500 friends all together. Now. If those 2,500 reach 50 friends more that becomes 125,000 Facebook friends who are already there at the start of our search.
Okay, what will motivate you and your friends to join the Facebook Worldwide Artist Search? I can think of many great reasons. There are so many, I will devote the time and space for all of them in our new Planet Earth 2.0 website...not just mine but the reasons that you suggest, too.
What brought us together was the spirit of hope behind the idea of " a new world that future generations can sustain and a planet that can sustain future generations."
The Facebook Worldwide Artist Search is a rally of our new ability to make things happen by just collaborating together in a cause as worthy as a new world. The WPMP, as a step forward is already leading us there.
Keep in mind that we are probably the first ones to use Facebook this way at a global scale.
We can do this with just a few clicks and experience together the power of social media to enable us to create a new world. Think about it for a moment, will you? Your comments and thoughts are truly welcomed.
On my next blog entry, I'll post more details about the Facebook Worldwide Artist Search.

First Step

Now that the Birth of Planet Earth 2.0 on August 29, 2009 is behind us, it is time to begin to face forwards and embrace the possible future that came with it.

Planet Earth 2.0 is a reality welcomed by the 150 or so people who attended its aesthetic birth and the many who graciously signed the manifesto which becomes its birth certificate. More on that event will be forthcoming.

Right now, however, I will like to focus on the work titled "First Step" that was the centerpiece of the event and to open the dialog about that work in this blog.

First Step is a visual interpretation of a rather complex narrative that describes what is happening at the onset of this historical time when the stakes are high, the realities inevitable and the consequences of doing nothing disastrous.

First Step is set in such a moment of reckoning as when we realize individually that our collective problems are global in scope, out of reach from conventional social organization, out of reach from classical institutions and out of reach from our localized and fragmented cultures.

The figure on the painting is humanity reflecting on this while thinking outside of the box. The box is a portrait of our dislocated world marred in the everlasting cycle of more of the same and business as usual. Rising from the floor (in the image) is a platform with two ascending steps. The first is occupied by a "Peace Marker," a sculptural component of the Worldwide Peace Marker Project (WPMP) that as a project is the proof of concept to Planet Earth 2.0, to our ability to create a new world and to the availability of unique ideas to guide its construction.

WPMP is a work in progress that will deliver to humanity a new experience that is so powerful that it will cement globally, not just the notion that Planet Earth 2.0 is an emerging reality, but that it is a world that can be built upon a foundation of a kind of peace that we have never known.

The second step is occupied by the Earth Globe where the first fifteen of 198 Peace Markers already in existence are marked (with natural pearls) in place in their respective nations across four continents.

Upon completion, the WPMP installation of one marker per each nation in the world as embraced and represented by one WPMP Artist Ambassador per each nation of the world would amount to a global representation of the entire human population. We will truly be one species working together to accomplish one thing. That "thing" is our specie's first global model of an application of Sufficiency. The result being at last, a working template for world peace.

This experience will be the irrefutable evidence that we can work together collaboratively as a single species without having to relinquish origin, identity or cultural roots.

Overall, First Step shows us the environment in which we as a species can enter together, in peace, in a new age of transition to build for ourselves a new world.

This is an example of Data A art. That is, it is art in the real context of life.

First Step was a collaboration between WPMP Artist Ambassador to France Ms. Julie Nedelec who painted the large canvas and me who rounded up the idea with the 3 dimensional components.
